I have mentioned before that I am not a fan of movie trailers because they reveal too much of the story.
When I realized that I wanted to see the movie One Day, I stopped watching the trailer. The story seemed so good that I didn't want it to be a 90 minute experience so I ordered the book from the library, wanting to savour every detail.
By the time the book arrived (over 6 months?), I had forgotten about the trailer and the actors in the movie.
The book started out great but then took a turn I didn't expect. The main male character was quite an idiot and not very likeable at times. I had remembered the story more like a Before Sunrise and Before Sunset type of story...where they decide to meet once a year, but that's not the storyline at all.
The premise of the story is observing the two main characters on one day of the year (July 15th), the day they met (whether they are together on that day or not). The book spans a couple of decades, sometimes recounting things that happened during the year, just enough to make the story continuous.
In the end, I really loved the book and couldn't wait to see the trailer again to see if the movie had varied much from the book. It seems pretty accurate. Seeing the full trailer and knowing the story, I still want to see the film.
